Why is stock more valuable over time?
The stock market goes up because businesses get bigger and earn more money over time. If you own stocks, you get to take part in that growth. You benefit from the profits, cash flows, innovation, and growth of corporations.
If more people want to buy a stock (demand) than sell it (supply), then the price moves up. Conversely, if more people wanted to sell a stock than buy it, there would be greater supply than demand, and the price would fall. Understanding supply and demand is easy.
Overvaluation may result from an uptick in emotional trading, or illogical, gut-driven decision making that artificially inflates the stock's market price. Overvaluation can also occur due to deterioration in a company's fundamentals and financial strength. Potential investors strive to avoid overpaying for stocks.
One of the main benefits of a long-term investment approach is money. Keeping your stocks in your portfolio longer is more cost-effective than regular buying and selling because the longer you hold your investments, the fewer fees you have to pay.
In general, strong earnings generally result in the stock price moving up (and vice versa). But some companies that are not making that much money still have a rocketing stock price. This rising price reflects investor expectations that the company will be profitable in the future.
It represents the total dollar value of all goods and services produced over a specific time period, often referred to as the size of the economy. For stock prices to grow faster than the GDP, either price has to grow faster than earnings or earnings have to grow faster than GDP.
People were not buying stocks on fundamentals; they were buying in anticipation of rising share prices. Rising share prices brought more people into the markets, convinced that it was easy money. In mid-1929, the economy stumbled due to excess production in many industries, creating an oversupply.
If investors purchase overvalued stocks at inflated prices, they will likely experience significant losses when the price eventually corrects its intrinsic value. This can cause long-term damage to an investor's portfolio and retirement savings.
However, we still view the shares as overvalued. Costco clocked a 90.5% global renewal rate in the quarter (92.9% in the US and Canada), and management reaffirmed its commitment to opening new warehouses, with 28 planned for fiscal 2024.
Based on the latest S&P 500 monthly data, the market is overvalued somewhere in the range of 92% to 154%, depending on the indicator, up from last month's 88% to 148%. This is the highest range we have seen since January 2022.
Why are the rich selling their stocks?
He is not the only billionaire who has sold stocks and opted to accumulate cash. In mid-2023, news began to spread about the world's super-rich reducing their ownership of shares in public companies. The reason behind this move is to secure their wealth amidst rising interest rates and economic uncertainty.

During yesterday's trading, NVIDIA's market value jumped by a whopping $277 billion, a record-breaking achievement. So far this year, their total gains have reached an impressive $740 billion, bringing their overall market capitalization close to $2 trillion.

In reality, many small-cap companies are well-established businesses with strong track records and great financials. And because they are smaller, small-cap share prices have a greater chance of growth. At the same time, small-cap stocks tend to be more volatile (and thus riskier) than their larger-cap peers.
But the booming markets are likely to benefit White families more than families from other racial and ethnic groups. That's because White families are the most likely to own publicly traded stocks, either directly or indirectly β for example, through a retirement account or mutual fund.
A stock's price is set by supply and demand in a secondary market. So when more investors want shares of stock, and fewer are available, prices go up. But when less investors want to buy shares, and there are more shares than demand, prices fall.
Not everyone, however, lost money during the worst economic downturn in American history. Business titans such as William Boeing and Walter Chrysler actually grew their fortunes during the Great Depression.
Can a Great Depression happen again?
It's possible in principle, but we'll have to move fast. If there is a slump that spreads to the first world oustside the U.S., then we have got to cut interest rates, start spending that budget surplus ... The Great Depression would have been easy to stop in 1930. It was very hard to get out of by 1935.
Despite all the President's efforts and the courage of the American people, the Depression hung on until 1941, when America's involvement in the Second World War resulted in the drafting of young men into military service, and the creation of millions of jobs in defense and war industries.
The so-called Buffett indicator compares the total market capitalization (share prices times outstanding shares) of all U.S. stocks with the quarterly output of the U.S. economy.
Equally, the all-important price-to-earnings-to-growth (PEG) ratio is 3.6 for TSLA. This is by no means an enticing ratio, and it infers that Tesla stock is overvalued considerably.
