What $2 bill is worth $4500?
If your $2 bill dates back to 1886 and has a red seal with a silver certificate, you're in luck. That bill is worth $4,500. A number of other iterations of the $2 bills with a red seal can also fetch well over a $1,000.
The values are the same whether the bill has a red or brown seal. An original uncirculated $2 bill from 1862 ranges in value from $500 to more than $2,800. You might get $3,800 or more for an 1869 note. More recently, the USCA lists a value of $500 on certain uncirculated $2 bills from 1995.
According to us, currency auctions, any $2 notes printed between 1862 and 1917 are valued at around $1000. Meanwhile, those minted in the year 1890 might go for as much as 4005 $100 still if you aren't one to hang on to antique notes, some newer ones are also worth *** pretty penny.
Double serial number
The best-known 1976 $2 error bill has two different serial numbers printed on two places on the obverse. It resulted from a printing error since these serial numbers always match on regular notes. Depending on their condition, these bills typically cost $500 to $900.
Most $2 Bills from 2003 are only worth their face value. But if you can find a high-grade note with fancy serial numbers, you can fetch as much as $20,000 with one sale verified in 2022.
Unless it has a unique feature, like a low serial number or misprint, a newer $2 bill likely isn't worth much more than $2, even if it's uncirculated.
According to U.S. Currency Auctions, some versions of the $2 bill are valued at nearly $5,000. The company said $2 bills from 1890 with a brown or red seal could sell for up to $4,500. But that's not all. Some newer versions of the $2 bill could also have a higher value.
“A serial number '1' for a 1976 $2 bill would be worth $20,000 or more. But [for] a majority of those people holding 1976 $2 bills, they are only worth face value. There are very few that actually exceed face value.”
According to U.S. Currency Auctions, uncirculated $2 bills with red or brown seals can fetch thousands. For example, an uncirculated 1890 series $2 bill with a brown seal can be worth at least $4,500. A circulated $2 bill with a red seal can sell for $2.25 to $2,500.
A newer bill with a green one is likely worth face value. With a red seal, the value generally starts to go up. Age is also a huge factor. If you're looking for a high dollar $2 bill, it would be pre-1900, and it would have to be in a very high condition graded condition," said Pinto.
What does a rare $2 bill look like?
There are a couple of key places on your bill to check out, like the year and seal color. Bills that have red, brown, or blue seals printed between 1862 and 1917 could be worth up to $1,000, per IndyStar.
1880 $2 United States Note
In particular, those with a large red seal and blue serial numbers are rare and worth good money. These notes feature Thoman Jefferson's portrait on the obverse with the Capitol building in the center.
What is the value of the 1976 $2 bill today? The bills printed in the year 1976 to 2003 are only worth their face value, which is $2. However, banknotes with errors, unique serial numbers, and misprints are valued higher. The $2 bills can range from $2 to over $500.
The note is considered uncommon but not rare. U.S. Currency Auctions estimates that uncirculated $2 bills from 1890 could sell for up to $4,500, and uncirculated bills from nearly every year between 1862 and 1917 for at least $1,000.
Any bill, regardless of the year it was printed, with a single-digit serial number can be worth a significant amount. These are bills with all zeros followed by a number from 1 to 9. Even two-digit serial numbers ranging from 10 to 99 can hold a value higher than their face value.
Heritage Auctions sold a 2003 $2 bill for $2,400 in July 2022 — and that bill's value could now be significantly higher. Other versions of the bill, per the U.S. Currency Auctions, are also valued between $500 and $1,000.
A circulated $2 bill with a red seal can sell for $2.25 to $2,500. To find a complete list of the values of collectible $2 bills, visit uscurrencyauctions.com. Copyright 2024 Nexstar Media Inc.
Newer bills have a green seal and are likely worth face value, Pinto told FOX 13. If the bill has a red seal, it is likely older, and the value generally starts to increase.

Some people carry $2 bills in their wallets or purses for good fortune. Some also believe the $2 bill is lucky because it's considered a "rare" denomination (in reality, it's just less common), while others say it's lucky because of its association with Thomas Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence.
Where can I sell my $2 bill?
If you're short on time, here's the quick answer: You can sell a 2-dollar bill through auction houses, coin dealers, pawn shops, and online marketplaces like eBay. Uncirculated and older series $2 bills tend to be the most valuable.
Despite the difference between the A and non-A, both notes are equally common and worth the same amount of money in all grades. You can buy a circulated 1963 red seal two dollar bill any day of the week for around $3. A star note from 1963 will cost you closer to $5 if it is in average condition.
Meanwhile, uncirculated $2 bills specifically from 1890 with a brown or red seal can sell for up to $4,500. Newer bills from 2003 forward, however, don't see an increase in value, per U.S. Currency Auctions.
The red seal appears on United States Notes issued from from 1862 to 1971. It shows that the money is an obligation of the U.S. Treasury. Until 1933, the Treasury had been redeeming these notes for gold. Until 1968, the Treasury had them redeemed for silver instead.
The 1963 bills carry a red stamp indicating that they were issued by the federal government of the United States. There are various types of stamps, and each color represents a different meaning. The red stamp represents US bills, while the green stamp represents Federal Reserve bills.
