How much is Zelle Bank of America?
Zelle in the Bank of America® app is a fast and easy way to send and receive money with family and friends… and it's free in our app. Money moves in minutes directly between enrolled users.
Zelle® is free in our mobile app 2 and Online Banking.
Bank | Daily Limit | Monthly Limit |
---|---|---|
Bank of America | $3,500 | $20,000 |
BMO | $1,000 for standard service ($750 for instant) | $5,000 |
Capital One | $2,500 | Not publicly listed |
Citibank | $2,500–$5,000 (depending on type of account; must be enrolled with Zelle for at least 30 days) | $15,000–$20,000 |
If you want to send money through the Zelle app, you can only send a transaction to other Zelle users, and you're limited to 500 USD per week.⁴ However, you can receive up to 5,000 USD.
Zelle® doesn't charge a fee to send or receive money.
If your bank or credit union does not yet offer Zelle®, your weekly send limit is $500 and your weekly receive limit is $5,000 in the Zelle® app. Please note that you cannot request to increase or decrease your limits.
Time Period | Total Dollar Amount | Total Transfers |
---|---|---|
24 hours | $3,500 | 10 |
7 days | $10,000 | 30 |
30 days | $20,000 | 60 |
More than 1,700 banks include Zelle in their banking app. Unlike many money transfer apps, Zelle does not charge a fee for instant transfers. Zelle transfers are generally secure, but the app does carry risks, including the risk of glitches at banks that can affect money transfers.
just open your Bank of America app and tap “Pay & Transfer,” then tap “Zelle” to enroll and get started today.
How to Get Your Money Back. Zelle is processing each scam claim they receive on a case-by-case basis. If you haven't already done so, file a claim directly with Zelle through their app or by phone (844-428-8542). You'll also need to file a claim with the bank or credit union your funds were taken.
Is Zelle safer than Venmo?
Both of the payment services are decently safe, have user-friendly interfaces, and allow you to conveniently send money when you need it. Zelle stands out from Venmo with its absence of instant transfer fees, but it also cannot be used as a wallet. So, if you need a wallet function, you should go for Venmo .
Zelle® does not report any transactions made on the Zelle Network® to the IRS, even if the total is more than $600. The law requiring certain payment networks to provide forms 1099K for information reporting does not apply to the Zelle Network®.
Some banks offer higher Zelle limits to customers with premium or high-tier accounts. Consider upgrading your account to enjoy increased limits, among other benefits. If you have accounts with different banks that offer Zelle, use this to your advantage.
Sending limits: For your security, we restrict the amount of money you can send to recipients. There are daily and 30-day (rolling) limits. The amounts you can send daily and over 30 days will vary based on your funding account, your recipient and the transaction history for each recipient.
Benefits of using Zelle
No cost. Zelle doesn't charge any fees to send or receive money, and it's unlikely that your bank will charge you a fee to use the service. The company does, however, recommend checking with your bank or credit union to make sure there are no additional fees.
Typically, banks set daily, weekly, and monthly limits for Zelle transfers. Daily limits often range from $1,000 to $2,500 per day, but they can be higher or lower depending on the bank. Weekly and monthly limits may be double or triple the daily limits.
Sending limits: For your security, we restrict the amount of money you can send to recipients. There are daily and 30-day (rolling) limits.
Enter the amount you want to send. If your recipient is already enrolled with Zelle®, the money will go directly into their bank account, typically in minutes. If they aren't enrolled yet, they will get a notification explaining how to receive the money simply and quickly.
There may be an issue with the email address or mobile number they have enrolled with Zelle®. You may verify with the Recipient they have fully enrolled with the email address or mobile number you are trying to send money, and have opted into receive notification.
Zelle requires a bank account to send and receive money, but you may be able to sign up with select prepaid Visa or Mastercard debit cards. Unfortunately, not all prepaid debit cards will work with Zelle, but you'll have the best luck with cards that requires a phone number, billing address, and email address.
Can you cancel a Zelle payment Bank of America?
If your recipient has already enrolled with Zelle®, the money is sent directly to your recipient's bank account and cannot be canceled.
ACH transfer: Typically free for transferring between your own Bank of America accounts. Fees may apply for transfers to other banks, usually around $3. Wire transfer: More expensive than ACH transfers, with fees typically ranging from $15 to $30 for domestic transfers and even higher for international transfers.
Regulators say hundreds of millions of dollars are stolen through scams and fraud each year involving one of the most popular electronic options for making payments: Zelle. Now, the banks may be negotiating new ways to protect customers.
Zelle transfers are similar to cash and funds are hard to recover once sent. Be cautious about unsolicited or urgent requests. If you're being rushed into sending payment or are told you'll face penalties, that's a sign to take a step back and verify your transaction. Be suspicious if someone demands you use Zelle.
Ask for the recipient's Zelle email address — not a phone number. Spotting typos in email addresses is easier (and more obvious) than identifying incorrect digits in a phone number. Remember that you don't need a Zelle business account to make and accept payments on Zelle.
