How do I get a bank account while on ChexSystems?
Apply for a second-chance bank account. Some traditional banks and online banks offer second-chance bank accounts to people with low credit scores, bad credit, or dings on their ChexSystems Report. Use a prepaid debit card.
Yes, you can get a bank account even if you're on ChexSystems. Having a history on ChexSystems doesn't necessarily mean you won't have access to a checking or other account for the next five years. Some banks and credit unions offer so-called second chance checking accounts.

Pay Off All Outstanding Debts – If the blacklisting results from unpaid debts or fees, resolve them immediately. This can be an important step in repairing your financial reputation. Consider Alternative Banking – Numerous institutions acknowledge that everyone deserves a second chance.
How long does negative information stay on ChexSystems and/or EWS consumer reports? Generally, negative information remains on ChexSystems and/or Early Warning Services (EWS) consumer reports for five years. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, certain negative information may be reported for up to seven years.
Pay any overdue amounts.
Once you've paid off your balance, you can request that the bank or collection agency remove the record from your ChexSystems report. You can also get a receipt showing that you paid the amount in full and send it to ChexSystems to have them update their records.
You can be denied an account if you're in debt to another bank because of an overdrawn account or overdraw your account too often.

A bank can deny your request to open an account because of past accounts that were closed due to negative balances, a history of overdrafts or problems verifying your identity. If you're unable to open a bank account, here are some tips on what to do next.
ChexSystems reports can reveal whether you've had a history of overdrafts, unpaid bank fees or other behavior that might cause a bank to deny you a checking account. To get a free copy of your ChexSystems report, visit the ChexSystems website.

Basic bank accounts give you a place to store and deposit money, pay bills and use online banking - even if you have poor or no credit history. Basic bank accounts are different from current accounts as they don't have an overdraft facility. This makes them less risky and reduces your chances of getting into debt.
You don't need a certain credit score to open a Bank of America checking or savings account, as there is no credit score requirement. Bank of America does not require a credit score for these accounts because they are deposit accounts, not loans or lines of credit.
If your bank thinks you've been the victim of identity theft, it may close your account to prevent further fraudulent activity. The bank also might shut down your account if it suspects you're committing suspicious or illegal activity, such as money laundering.
If you choose to opt out, your name and address will be removed from the lists these offers are based on. You may opt out with the nationwide credit bureaus at 888.5 OPTOUT (888.567. 8688). You may opt out with ChexSystems at 877.
Once you have been blacklisted you will have a bad credit record for anything from 2 – 10 years, depending on the type of listing that you have against you, but even after this period of time, a judgment can be issued against you if you have not paid the money that you owe.
Is everyone on ChexSystems?
Not everyone has a ChexSystems file. If you're in really good standing, you might not have a ChexSystems report at all. Having a negative ChexSystems record doesn't automatically mean that you won't be able to get a new personal or business checking account. But it might lower your chances of success in doing so.
Your ChexSystems report may also include things such as overdrafts, unpaid negative balances, and suspected identity theft or banking fraud.
Capital One will no longer use ChexSystems, a computer program that screens customers seeking to open checking or savings accounts, to decide whether consumers pose credit risks, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a statement.
ChexSystems® provides all consumer disclosure reports free of charge. You can request a report to learn what information, if any, is listed in your consumer file at ChexSystems.
Your ChexSystems score alerts banks of the level of risk you could pose, and depending on the bank, your score could be too low and you could be denied an account.
